One thing to be aware of is that the Philippines is a poor country and as a visitor people will try and take advantage of you knowing that you're better off financially than they are. Most scenarios are never drastic and just petty cash scams. However, you should always be careful and just be aware that you might be a target of some fraudulent schemes.

I can give you a countless list of some examples that I personally encountered but instead I'll just give you some cautionary advice. Never purchase anything from an individual from the streets that approaches you. They'll try and sell you anything and everything from cigarettes to sexual enhancement drugs. When engaging with a woman try and make sure she is a genuine person who is interested in you. Just like my section on safety use common sense and your best judgment. If it sounds too good to be true then it probably is.

If you met someone online prior to your trip to the Philippines you have to be just as careful. Most likely you will come across someone online who will solicit you with unwanted spam. Although spamming is physically harmless you can take a hit in your wallet if you're not careful. Never purchase anything from an individual and never send money to someone you haven't met in person. They'll tell you everything from how they have a sick family member to how they need to pay for their education.

One thing worth mentioning, which I don’t really consider a scam, is that when you do meet the Filipina woman of your choice you’ll pay for it monetarily. When you take her out to dinner or purchase items for her chances are she’ll bring a few members of her family with her. They will expect you to pick up the tab afterwards. In my opinion this is not a scam. You just have to understand that in the Filipino culture they are very giving people and they expect the same from you. They just can’t show their gratitude monetarily like we can so they will return the favor in other ways. If you feel she's bringing too many people around then tell her in a very polite manner.

COMMON SENSE IS YOUR BEST WEAPON. IF IT SOUNDS TO GOOD TO BE TRUE THEN IT PROBABLY IS.
